Feel free to participate in this endeavor because it is our own and only us, Ibajaynons, can fully understand our sincerest desire to bring positive changes to our town and her constituents: changes that will not last for a day but for a lifetime; to improve the quality of life that everyone deserves; to develop the natural resources she offers and as we honestly toil as a team, together, we enjoy the fruits she brings.

Now is the time for us to make a commitment and unselfishly give our God given talents and precious time in visualizing what appropriate actions we ought to implement to achieve a quality of life that each of us is dearly longing to have.

Engraved in the hearts and minds of our parents is the thought of sending their children to school. Not very many families are well off thus a table may be served with rice, dried fish and nothing more. But the will to live is so strong in the midst of financial difficulties because everyone believes that by hard work one can achieve his goals and one of them is finishing a college degree. By finishing the line everyone anticipates he will bring not only the “ pot of gold ” but prestige and honor to his family.

We are predominantly Catholics but other Christian denominations are growing and are welcomed in the community. In any social structure, someone who is new to the group is considered an intruder and resistance abounds but with the passing of time the barrier is broken. The individual identity remains intact but at this time he is assimilated into the group thus becoming one.

The spirit of sharing with your neighbors is prevalent among Ibajaynons and what a joy it brings when you make someone feels important. But sometimes this act of generosity is being abused.

Entertainment is usually free when schools of different sector hold its program at public parks. Basketball game-s are very common as well as softball tournament. In my early teens we collected used candy wrappers to accumulate points. Whoever had the highest points will be crowned “The King and The Queen,” in a local pageant; used cigarettes wrapper as a form of money in gam-bling using dice; flattened tin cover of soda or beer in a game we called “ hantog”; marbles we pay if unable to shoot the marbles in the hole; rubber bands as in “pitik” and “sipa,” etc. At that time things seemed simple and some cost no money at all. I realized the idea of recycling wasn’t indeed a new approach at all. As a pastime few indulged in mahjong and bingo; others are hooked to their television screen to watch soap operas while many are taking their nap in a flat surface made of bamboos locally called “papag.” On weekend men and some women watches cock fighting “ bueang” to make a bet. Either you win or lose your hard earned money. On certain occasion public dancing is held to raise funds. Husbands and wives, young lovers and singles alike crowd the hall or park to the tune of the waltz, cha-cha, boogie, disco and the current craze.

On one hand, we are fun loving and easy going on the other we are hard working and persevering people. Men like the company of other men especially in a drinking gathering but don’t make a mistake of provoking someone to anger because you will certainly get your own dose of medicine. In homes the father retains the leadership role but with the changing pattern where wives are becoming the breadwinner the paternal system is put into a litmus paper. Majority though still consider the father as the stronghold and the rock of his household while the mother graciously tends to the other needs of the family.

It is our earnest intention to awaken you to a spirit of vitality and enthusiasm; to conscientiously think of what you can do to the place so close to your heart, a place we dearly call Ibajay.

To you, Ibajay, this website is dedicated.

I saw my mother unselfishly giving herself for the good of others is a virtue I would like to emulate. It gives her a sense of accomplishment and goodwill. Nay, indi ako makabaeos sa kalisdanan nga naagyan mo sa pagtatap ag pagbahoe kakon ngani ginapaabot ko eoman kimo ro akon nga abo nga pasaeamat.

A special thanks to the webmaster, Steven, who painstakingly organized the materials and created it into a website. It is with great pleasure to acknowledge the assistance of German B. Compas, Salve C. Maglantay, Bedith M. Garcia, Ed S. de Luna and Herme Masula.
